Let's get to know her!

Describe your business in 5 sentences or less.

A Sprites Ceremony is a modern, spiritual approach to celebrating your life’s biggest milestones. Laura is a wedding officiant and ritualist, and provides the following additional services: coaching for vow writing, ceremony writing and toast writing, celebration of life planning, professional speech writing and personal essay coaching. Laura is releasing her first e-book, Writing A Spirited Ceremony: a how to guide to creating the perfect wedding ceremony, on August 1st!

What's your "WHY"? Why do you do what you do? What keeps you motivated?

Planning, writing and performing wedding ceremonies is the greatest privilege I can imagine. The start of a marriage is sacred and beautiful, and serving a couple in this way fulfills me deeply. I feel grateful that something this wonderful abs celebratory is my calling!

What's your favorite thing about your business?

Meeting with couples and hearing their love stories, and being in community with creative small business owners. As a writer, I am inspired by stories, and there are incredible stories that come from the beginning of a marriage and the beginning of a business! There is a little magic in all of it.

Describe yourself in three words.

Passionate, Playful, Focused

Describe your business in three words.

Curated, Modern Milestones

If you didn't own your business, what would you be doing?

Teaching! The inspiration for my book came from the other half of my heart, empowering others to write and perform weddings! I love coaching clients who are tasked with writing a speech or essay in personal, academic or professional settings. In another life, would teach adults creative writing or a public speaking course.

Do you work your business full-time? My plan is to be transitioned to full time by September of 2023!

If you don't work your business full-time, what else do you do? *Only if you are comfortable sharing.

I am a mother of two girls, age 5 & almost 2, and I host a mom and me group called Miss Laura’s Baby Book Club!

What are you most excited about regarding the future of your business? I am looking forward to the launch of my book this fall! I am hopeful that with it out in the world, I am able to connect and expand my business to supporting clients virtually.

What has been the greatest challenge of being a business owner? Time, and doing it on my own. There are only so many weekends in a year! I wish I could say yes to every inquiry. Saying I’m already booked is the hardest part!

If you had to give advice to another business owner, what would you tell them? Focus on what you love, not what you think will achieve a sale or booking. The right clients will find you.

If you could go back and give yourself advice in the first 6 months of owning a business, what would you tell yourself? Take your time on branding, selecting your platforms and creating a game plan. You can only do it for the first time, once! Start on the right foot.

What else do you want our readers to know? The magic of a wedding comes from the little quirky details that add up to something singular and unique to you. That begins with your ceremony! Let’s tell an unforgettable story together!
